Yes you can. You may use formats 1-9.
You may also use named formats - but they will only return the formatRow, not the formatHead and formatFoot. Here is an example:

$WBB{"formatRowSidebar"}='qq(<br><a href="$rec{url}">$rec{sitename}</a>)';
